A new publication, “1663″ was launched in January to tell the story of scientific progress in Los Alamos. The inaugural issue contains features about work being done on a hand-held flu detector, advances in nuclear technology for energy production, development of carbon nanotubes, advances in technology to make hydrogen practical as a consumer fuel, and other topics.
“The best and the brightest come to Los Alamos for the opportunity to work on the most compelling problems at the frontiers of science,” said Laboratory Director Michael Anastasio in announcing the launch. “Our unique role is to think ahead, not 5 or 10 years, but 20 and 50 years, and to build a scientific base that can respond to immediate crises as well as prepare for the needs of a rapidly changing world.”
